Is our Congress today in more danger than were their predecessors when the British army was marching on the Capitol? Is the world more dangerous than when we faced an ideological enemy with tens of thousands of missiles poised to be launched against us and annihilate our country at a moment's notice? Is America in more danger now than when we faced worldwide fascism on the march-when our fathers fought and won two World Wars simultaneously? It is simply an insult to those who came before us and sacrificed so much on our behalf to imply that we have more to be fearful of than they. Yet they faithfully protected our freedoms and now it is up to us to do the same.

We have a duty as Americans to defend our citizens' right not only to life but also to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is therefore vital in our current circumstances that immediate steps be taken to safeguard our Constitution against the present danger posed by the intrusive overreaching on the part of the Executive Branch and the President's apparent belief that he need not live under the rule of law."

President Bush says that if "If somebody from al-Qaeda is calling you, we'd like to know why." But the real question is that if our government knows the phone numbers of Al-Qaida members, why the hell aren't they arresting them overseas and prosecuting them for their
crimes? Is it because we are hopelessly bogged down in Iraq which has NOTHING TO DO WITH TERRORISM? Is it because all of our resources have been needlessly diverted to the unjust war and unjust Occupation in Iraq? Why does the government insist instead on scaring innocent, law-abiding Americans instead of doing its basic job to protect American citizens? And if the government eviscerates the very liberties that make us a free people in the interest of ruling by
fear, oppression of dissent at home and the use of needless violence, war and torture abroad then can it be said that the U.S. government represents the greatest terrorist threat both to its own people and the world at large? Is a government that breaks its own laws legitimate and deserving of continuity? Why aren't these hard questions being asked? Why does the mainstream media fail to ask such bold questions?
